MAIA Biotechnology
MAIA Biotechnology develops cancer therapies focused on targeting telomeres via immunotherapy. It advances ateganosine (THIO / 6-thio-2’-deoxyguanosine), a small molecule that is incorporated into telomeres of telomerase-active cancer cells. Once integrated, ateganosine alters telomere structure, triggering DNA damage responses, telomere “uncapping,” and cell death, and stimulates immune response when used sequentially with checkpoint inhibitor therapies. The company also runs a second-generation discovery program to generate novel telomere-targeting agents with improved specificity and anticancer activity. It has nominated molecular entity candidates (e.g. MAIA-2021-20, MAIA-2022-12) for preclinical development.
